Find Yourself Screaming "Save My Marriage?"
Maybe you’re newly weds or have been married for years, yet a good chunk of us find ourselves at one point another screaming, Save My Marriage! Which is why our relationship topic of the day is Save My Marriage. Filing for divorce is not the solution when a marriage starts going though rough times. It’s like saying you don’t want to be with your mother, father, sister or brother anymore just because you’re having so many problems! They’re still your spouse!
There are many great solutions to help fix a marriage as long as both partners are committed and willing to resolve the issues. One of the most popular first steps is counseling. Counseling allows the couple to have a mediator in dealing with their issues. Expensive, time consuming and lacking anonymity, many couples choose not to go this route. Below is a list of tips that you can take to heart and utilize when to “save my marriage” and improve the odds of successfully avoiding divorce.
First, know that there is no just thing as a perfect marriage. Whenever two people are brought together, there will be problems. Even identical twins differ in likes and dislikes. For the marriage to succeed, the couple must learn to deal with the rough patches and overcome their problems. Seeking perfection will only destroy everything. People make mistakes, work with your partner and overcome the problems you face, and you’ll realize it is possible to save your marriage.
Second, good communication is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. When there is a lack of communication, major problems will start to arise. The most important thing is to be honest with your partner. Just about every issue and problem can be solved if there is constant communication. If you cheated explain why. If your spouse was unfaithful this is usually due to a deeper problem. Maybe they were feeling neglected, unloved, etc. Look and work on the core issues.
Thirdly, accept compromise. Compromise can be defined as the middle ground when a conflict arises. You don’t ALWAYS have to be right, but make sure you are heard on issues as well. A relationship is all about giving and taking.
Fourthly commit. Using the analogy of a car, if it breaks down you’re going to just abandon it on the side of the road. The only time you do get rid of the car is when there is no hope. Saving your marriage involves the same level of commitment. At times you may feel that the car is totalled. However, remember how much you once loved and love this person. You made a vow as did they. So if you really want to learn to “Save My Marriage”, know that no bump on the road cannot be smoothed out. Good luck.
