Not Everyone Can Forgive Their Partner
Learning to forgive your partner can be one of the hardest and most difficult things to do. There are no rules that say you can and cannot forgive someone for this or for that. Learning to forgive someone for something is always up to the individual person. At times, even when a partner gets cheated on, they immediately forgive their ex as their bonds in the relationship are too strong to severe – there could be children or other factors that come into play. Whatever the case may be, here are a few tips to help you learn to forgive in a relationship.
Even though it may seem impossible if you’ve been deeply hurt by your partner, learning to forgive your partner will lift a huge burden off of your own shoulders. Constantly being angry, upset and disappointed at someone will take a lot off your spirit. So, for your own sake forgive your partner for whatever they did. It doesn’t mean you have to take them back, or still continue you to be with them. But it means, you’re allowing yourself to be the bigger person and move on from their mistakes.
Opening up the channels of communication and allowing your ex to explain themselves is going to help your relationship heal and repair. Refrain from yelling, screaming or shouting at your ex and allow them to explain their position and why they did what they did. Your job is to listen when your partner talks. If and when your partner does apologize don’t say, “Yeah you should be.” Allowing your partner to receive your forgiveness and working as a couple on your relationship will only strengthen it.
Understand that people make mistakes. Most of the mistakes that people make in relationships are trivial and can be forgiven. It is easy for someone to say or do the wrong thing at times when they aren’t thinking clearly. It is also very important to consider the context of the situation.
If there is a reoccurring problem in your relationship and you can’t seem to talk it though, counseling or help from a third party may be an option.
